Guidance
Give guidance to those who need help. Today, in the United States, more than seven million people are affected by mental retardation or developmental disabilities. Locally, we provide services for more than 400 individuals with disabilities, and their families.
Mentorship
Provide mentorship to those looking for a friend. As a member, you will automatically join forces with thousands of individuals across the United States. Your membership helps support local programs and services as well as strengthening The Arc's voice in addressing national, state, and local level policy issues that impact people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
Educate
Work to educate every person about cognitive disabilities and encourage all people to get involved in legislative change. By becoming a new member or renewing your membership with The Arc of Southeast Iowa, you will make your voice heard ten times over. The voice of The Arc and its constituents is determined by the number of members it has. Each member is representative of ten individuals – and all ten individuals count when legislators create policies or enforce budget cuts. We at The Arc of Southeast Iowa want to be the group that demands action and demands the rights of the disability community be protected.
Your support through membership enables The Arc of Southeast Iowa to:
- Offer guidance to those who need help and those who want to help
- Monitor national progress made in the area of inclusion, such as education, employment, community living and recreation
- Make the public aware of the needs, rights and abilities of people with developmental disabilities
- Encourage progressive legislation
- Develop and promote effective programs and services
